HERO Story: A Gift of Self-Defense
My Name is JJ,
I was in an abusive relationship situation and was staying in a shelter. At the time, while I was staying at the shelter, an anonymous group came to the shelter bearing gifts. I didn’t know at the time how important the gift I received was going to be. In my mind, when I received this gift, I was confused, thinking, how is this item handed to me going to help me and my children?
A young lady approached me and started to explain how the product works in a threatening situation. Properly used, it prevents future potential harm from coming to me and my children. The first thing that caught my eye was the name on the package, the name HERO! After the young lady had very carefully explained how the HERO non-lethal self-protection unit works, she then showed me how to load the launcher and she did for me.
Again, I was skeptical about how this was going to help me.
Well, on the 2nd day in the evening, my two children and I had just finished getting food from the market and were in the process of walking 3 miles back to the shelter, as it was late and getting darker outside. 20 minutes in, we were approached by several thugs who had bad intentions. I carefully brought my children behind me as they were approaching and telling me to hand over my purse.
At that moment, I remembered I had in my purse the protection gift that was ready to use. Without losing a bit, I pulled it out and aimed it at their face and pushed the button, and the minute it got on their face, all I heard was screaming and cursing while my children and I were running away to safety. After the adrenaline from the event died down, we were back in the shelter. I realized how close I came to being a victim again.

As I was explaining what had happened, one of the ladies said, “You were really lucky to have escaped getting hurt.” My response was, I had help from a HERO!
